Bradford received an honorable guest, Daniel Taub, who is Israel’s ambassador to Britain. His visit came after the Bradford MP George Galloway made contentious comments regarding Israel. These comments implied that Israelis should not visit or even reside in Bradford.
This visit was an attempt to meet with councilors, faith leaders among other groups.
George Galloway’s comments seemed to vary from what Daniel Taub impressions of Bradford were. Galloway comment on Israel free Bradford put is that the city should not have any goods from Israel, no academics or even tourists. This means that Bradford is to cut all connections with this country.
To Taub, Bradford was a city that anyone, from any faith and background, could live, work, and co-operate. Galloway comments however implied that the city was a no-go zone for the Israelis. He felt that Galloway is not giving the real voice of Bradford which is the voice of inclusion rather than that of exclusion. This is what made the visit so important. Galloway speech which aroused social media uproar is under police investigation. In this speech, Galloway was heard saying that they –don’t want any Israel goods or services, they don’t want any Israeli going to Bradford universities and colleges, and they don’t want any tourist from Israel to visit Bradford. He topped it all by saying Israel state is illegal, barbarous and savage.
Maybe these comments from Galloway are as a result of his long history of being anti-Israel. He at one time stormed out of a debate after realizing that his opponent was an Israeli. He commented that he does not debate with Israelis. This made him be branded as a racist. Read more: Daniel Taub | Ideamench and Daniel Taub | Crunchbase
Galloway has aired on several occasions the anti-Israel conspiracy theories. These theories include claims of Israel’s support to Al-Qaeda and Ukraine unrest. However, he denies having said all that.
Daniel Taub, speaking with Telegraph & Argus, said that his message to Galloway is that real conflict in Israel is between the past the future but not anything else. Also, he advised Galloway that he should not be among those pulling this state backward but rather those who are trying to make it have a better future.
According to Taub, Bradford encourages dialogue in which he also believes in. Tight security was ensured during his visit to Bradford. He stated that he was invited by people of Bradford who feel that Galloway does not represent them. He clings to the belief that Bradford is co-operating city.
